Thanks so much for joining us here on the show. It’s brought to you by Gulf Shore Playhouse. Changing lives through exceptional theater experiences and now doing so in a beautiful new performing arts and education center in downtown Naples on a quarter of 41, Goodlette-Frank Rd. I hope you’ll take a look at the wonderful building and also get tickets to upcoming performances. The website is Gulf Shore playhouse.org. We have with us today, Scott Baier. He is the CEO of the Community Pregnancy Clinics. Scott, thank you so much for joining us here on the show.

[00:00:40] Scott Baier
Good morning Bob. It’s always good to be with you.

[00:00:42] Bob Harden
Thank you. Scott, tell us about the Community Pregnancy Clinics.

[00:00:45] Scott Baier
Yes. So Community Pregnancy Clinics is one of the oldest pregnancy resource centers in the nation. Starting in 1974, we’re one of the largest in Florida, with five office clinics and two mobile clinics serving all the way from Naples up to Gainesville. We offer life-affirming pregnancy services for women and men in need, which include free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, other referral services, and up to three years of material assistance after the baby’s born. We’re there to provide the care, compassion, and choices to women that they often don’t receive elsewhere as they find themselves in such dire need.

[00:01:28] Bob Harden
Well, finding themselves in dire need for sure. I can only imagine what it must feel like to find out that you’re pregnant. Uh, that, uh, it’s a surprise. Not a pleasant surprise, necessarily, but primarily because you just don’t know where to go. You don’t have support. You’re even concerned about talking to your family about it. So, uh, I mean, the support that you offer, and I must say, I’ve been to events where I’ve met parents, met and seen the children, and it’s just such an inspiring thing to see the work that you do.

[00:01:58] Scott Baier
Yes. We like to say that when a woman feels lovable, then she’s love-able and she’s more likely to be able to bring that life because so often she thinks she can’t bring that life into the world, because so often she thinks that abortion is the only option. She’s told that unfortunately, by many people. And so often when they not only see the baby in the womb, right, they’re reminded that they already are a mother or a father. But when they see the life and then they see the resources that are available to them, and the love and the care and compassion, it’s such a beautiful thing. Miracles are happening in clinics all around the state and really around the nation. You know, there’s over 3,000 life-affirming pregnancy resource centers in the country. And so, no matter what happens on the political level, we’re going to help women and men choose life for that baby inside the womb. And, and we’re there for them for a long time after the baby is born.

[00:02:55] Bob Harden
As is the entire organization. How are you funded?

[00:02:58] Scott Baier
So we are privately funded. We don’t get one penny of taxpayer dollars. So we are dependent on the generosity of so many people since 1974. 51 years later, it’s not just money either. Time, talent, and treasure. We have people who volunteer their hard-working hours, and then others who are giving their talents. We have great board members who are all volunteer board members serving us with their time and talent. And so we are dependent totally on—you know, I always like to say care and compassion has costs, where the other side, it’s all about abortion revenue. And we don’t get that, obviously. We don’t charge. Everything’s free and confidential. And so, we’re blessed by many, many people who support our work.

[00:03:46] Bob Harden
Absolutely. And there’s two websites. One is, uh, communitypregnancyclinic.com—that’s for clients, men and women who may want to make a call and get support.

[00:03:56] Scott Baier
They can call, text, and make an appointment right there online. And then our other website is supportcpci.com for those people that want to get more involved, again, with that time, talent, and treasure.

[00:04:07] Bob Harden
Yeah, it’s just a wonderful organization, Scott. You should be very proud. I wonder if you had any thoughts or opinions about the defunding Planned Parenthood efforts that are going on.

[00:04:16] Scott Baier
Yeah, it’s very timely that we’re talking about this now because just yesterday, a Massachusetts federal judge placed a second injunction on the defunding effort. So, you know, part of what I’m doing right now is educating people and clarifying about the defunding Planned Parenthood efforts, which, you know, I’m happy for. Obviously, it’s the first real traction in many, many years for the defunding Planned Parenthood effort. So we applaud that. Hope it continues. But the reality is there are injunctions in Massachusetts and likely in other places that will pop up. But more importantly, I don’t think people often understand the sheer numbers. So Planned Parenthood received over $2 billion last year in revenue, of that was $792 million of our taxpayer dollars, right, which comes from Medicaid reimbursements. So that’s in the works to put an end to that. But the reality check is that it went from ten years defunding when it was with the House to one year when it reached the Senate and was signed off on. So really unfortunate. It’s kind of like the Hyde Amendment, right? It has to be passed every year, and donors like George Soros and others have said that they will fund them for the year if need be. So until Planned Parenthood’s close—and we know from some of the former abortion workers that, uh, that work there and are leaving…

[00:05:43] Scott Baier
The New York Times article from a few months ago got into that. But, uh, I would direct people to abortionworkers.com, where you can see the stories of what’s happening inside the abortion mills. So often, you know, we know that many of them are not certified or qualified for the jobs they’re doing according to their own testimonies. And then many of them are told to do illegal activities. So, you know, again, we talk about what’s happening behind closed doors. And that’s with our taxpayer dollars. That’s what this movement is all about—not funding something that is not only not serving the needs of women and obviously babies, but also they’re involved in political activism. Right? We know that’s part of where the money is going. So that shouldn’t be used by taxpayer dollars. But so we’re hopeful that the defunding efforts within the big beautiful bill will continue. But these injunctions and being caught up in the courts for the next year will certainly limit the effectiveness of that. So we’ll continue to do what we do on the ground level to support women. The more people that get educated from websites that I shared before, I think the better it will be for all of us to understand this issue, and that abortion is not something that we want to support.

[00:06:56] Bob Harden
Well, and I just can’t understand how we end up using taxpayer dollars in order to fund, uh, abortion mills like Planned Parenthood. But I understand that. I think there’s five or six clinics that have already closed in California or are in the process of closing.

[00:07:11] Scott Baier
California. Texas? Yes. And what they’re doing on a national level, we see they’re telling us that they’re moving to more of a telehealth model. Right. Because the reality of chemical abortion—abortion pills—are more accessible, and they’re trying to enter into that market. So while it’s good that physical clinics close, that’s actually part of their kind of consolidation. I think that they’re trying to become a little bit more efficient with their resources. And so while it’s a good thing when abortion mills close, let’s not forget about the abortion pills, which we could maybe talk about more next time. Uh, how that’s such, uh, such an evil that’s even more accessible as women now are in their homes and their dorm rooms now becoming their own doctors in a sense without oversight, which is really, as we have seen, stories with tragic endings.

[00:08:01] Bob Harden
Wow. Terrific organization. Just encourage our listeners to go to the website, supportcpci.com. Terrific organization. Get involved in any way that you can, financially or otherwise. Again, a terrific organization. Scott, really appreciate your commentary here on the show. Thank you so much for joining us.

[00:08:22] Scott Baier
Thank you Bob. Have a blessed day.

[00:08:23] Bob Harden
