Announcer: [00:00:05] Welcome back to the Bob Harden show. And now here’s your host Bob Harden.
Bob Harden: [00:00:11] Thanks so much for joining us here on the show. It’s brought to you in part by Gulfshore Playhouse. Changing lives through exceptional theatre experiences and now doing so in a new, beautiful performing arts and education center downtown Naples. And by the way, when you go to performances at Gulfshore Playhouse, you’re seeing professional actors, just like bringing Broadway right here to the Paradise Coast. I hope you visit the website and get tickets. The website is Gulfshore Playhouse. We have with us Shaun Guevarra. He is the executive for the Community Pregnancy Clinics. Shaun, thank you so much for joining us here on the show.
Shaun Guevarra: [00:00:44] Oh, always a pleasure. Thanks for having me.
Bob Harden: [00:00:46] My pleasure. Shaun, tell us about the community pregnancy clinics.
Shaun Guevarra: [00:00:51] Sure thing. We are one of the oldest pregnancy resource centers here in the country, established in 1974. Right after Roe v Wade. We’re one of the original 13 that was actually set up in the country here, and we’ve now grown to be the largest in the state of Florida. We have five office clinics in Naples, Fort Myers, Sarasota, Gainesville. We have two mobile clinics, with another one possibly coming online, and a number of programming that we do to serve families. We’re starting to do more education outreach in the communities as well. So we have pregnancy services, but also education, referral services and just a lot of things to surround and support mothers and fathers so that they feel lovable as Scott or CEO always says, so that they feel lovable so that they’re more love-able. And then we hope that that brings life into the world.
Bob Harden: [00:01:40] Absolutely. And doing wonderful things. I must say, I’ve attended some of the annual events held by the Community Pregnancy Clinics and to meet the families, see the babies, the lives that have been saved. It’s just so inspirational and moving. I just really congratulate you on the work that you’re doing.
Shaun Guevarra: [00:01:58] Thank you. Yeah. It’s always wonderful to meet clients. And lately, I’ll just tell you, we actually met a couple of clients from, I think one was about 15 years ago, another from 20 or 25 years ago. And to meet their children grown up now and to realize the reality of what is being done is absolutely just a blessing.
Bob Harden: [00:02:19] Well, thank you for that, Shaun. I was wondering if you could just bring us up to date with what’s happening with abortions the laws with regard to pregnancy pills and so forth. Where do we stand?
Shaun Guevarra: [00:02:33] Yeah. So it’s still a little I don’t know, I want to say a little disappointing, I guess, that we’re not seeing, you know, a lot more of the enforcement of it. I think a lot of times in the state of Florida, people are seeing where there’s less foot traffic going to the Planned Parenthood and the abortion clinics, and that can give a false sense of I guess, of a victory. And we’re not quite there. What’s happening is it’s been shifted, the delivery method to abortion pills. And the way abortion pills work just briefly, is that you have these two pills that the mothers take and the first one, it removes the progesterone. So what that does, is it kind of it really takes away the food source so it starves the baby. And then the second one induces the pregnancy. And it’s been you know, it’s been it’s been eye opening, realizing how easily these abortion pills are coming into the state of Florida. There was someone on one of the campuses, and she had like 42 of these abortion pills stashed. And we recently even had a client who told us she went in to the to Planned Parenthood. They realized that she was over six weeks. And so they couldn’t do a surgical abortion. And knowing that we have a six week law here in Florida, they gave her the QR code to go online and purchase, and it turns out she was nine weeks. So what happens there with these abortion pills is awful. Is there is an opportunity if we can, within the first 24 to 48 hours, be able to get a hold of these mothers and a lot of them will see signs abortion pill reversal, you’ll see April on campuses and libraries, etc..
Shaun Guevarra: [00:04:21] And what that does is if we can get within that time frame, we can get them on a prescription of progesterone. So first we bring them we get the progesterone set up that replaces the progesterone they’re losing to establish a new food source, you know basically to help in the womb. And then we continue with the actual care that’s needed. And so we’re there with them in that first trimester of progesterone treatment basically. And then they’re transferred off into actual OB care. And what’s so important about that is that most people don’t realize that if they’ve taken the first pill, there’s still an opportunity to save that baby. And my last bit of this that’s so important is these (abortion) pills are being offered online for under $100, sometimes as low as $5, and you can get them. I mean, men are able to get them. You can just lie online on a form, they’ll mail it to you. And so we’re seeing a lot of coercing here. We’re seeing people flipping this. It could be fathers of the baby. It could be parents of the mother. And they’re slipping it in drinks. They’re giving it to them. They’re forcing it. And so we have a whole new culture that we’re fighting of, this hidden pill that people don’t even realize. And how do we get to that? So this is this is the new landscape of what’s happening in Florida across the whole
